Week 6

One, two, skip a few, okay, here we are at Week 6.
Last Saturday we went to Kitengela Glass. It is a small workshop that creates blown glass products from recycled glass. In order to reach Kitengela, you have to cross the most terrifying suspension bridge ever. It's made entirely out of wire and crosses a pretty significant gorge. Pictures to be posted soon. Kitengela itself is filled with glass art. It also had a few horses, chickens, and a giant pig sitting in a yard. There was a store, a gallery, and a pottery workshop. After Kitengela, when several of us had backpacks full of glasses, we went on a nature walk. We walked along a river, literally jumping from rock to rock, and concluded with climbing along the riverbank on tree roots. We finished the day with nyama choma, just like always.
Monday was a challenging day at EcoSandals. One of the sandalmakers confronted me during the shareholder's meeting claiming that I was favoring some workers over others and that he didn't agree with what I've been doing since I was there. It's frustrating because, for the most part, I've been doing what Norman and Michael have been asking of me. I feel like I'm getting caught up in an internal dispute.
Beyond this, I feel like I'm doing some interesting things at EcoSandals. I'm trying to make connections between smaller organizations back in the United States, including Camp Foster. I'm also busy with a newsletter and an organizational review.
Today I had my three classes. In Swahili, we studied for our impending quiz on Thursday. Then I went to my two classes at USIU and have been trying to do homework ever since.
